Pennsylvania Dutch Dialect Project
Welcome to the Pennsylvania Dutch
Dialect Project, a web site for those
interested in learning the dialect and learning about the dialect.
To make it easier to navigate around, I converted this to html frames based. This makes it easier for me to maintain, and for users to see the wide tables (after clicking on the >> characters for the ads in the above right area). This site is free so that the content will remain for a long time, and as such needs to be ad based - sorry.

The new issue of Pennyslvania Heritage, Spring 2006, has an excellent article (cover story) on Don Yoder entitled, "Is it Pennsylvania German or Pennsylvania Dutch?" Click here

Update - 2016. All, I recently have dropped my endorsement of the PA German Society. My recent experience is that under the current leadership, in my opinion, this organization no longer serves a mission to promote our Pennsylvania German heritage. After many years with that organization, I am dropping my membership. Therefore, I would like to publicly encourage others to support (in spirit and financially) what I believe to be the type of organization that has and continues to really promote our PA German heritage - the Pennsylvania German Cultural Heritage Center. Check out their historic farm adjacent to the Kutztown University campus, their genealogy library, and publications. Their "Hiwwe wie Driwwe" PA German dialect newspaper is a must-read for those interested in the dialect. You can subscribe to both at one time! Please show them support to help preserve our history!
