Pennsylvania Dutch Dialect - Smith Letter
The following images are from a letter to my Great-Great-Great Grandfather, John S Schmidt (1827-1904) from his brother Henry S. Schmidt (1839-1900+).  Henry left Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania and moved to Convoy, Van Wert County, Ohio (where his uncle lived).  This is written on Civil War stationary and is written in German script.  The date is difficult to make out, but possibly 1862?  Strictly speaking, it's not "dialect writing" as can be seen, but does represent the style of written German used by an average Pennsylvania Dutch house carpenter after the Civil War.

I had tried translating this a while ago.  I remember there is ome discussion of the language of the people in Ohio.  If I can find create a reasonable translation, I will post it.
