Grave's Tabular Initial Index

Following is one of several goofy index systems used in county records. I found this one common in New York Deeds and you'll never find anything without a decoder (which unfortunate is *not* in the front of most dockets!). This index is for the last name only. Start with the first letter of the surname, then go down to the 2nd letter. Then across to the 3rd letter. If there is a ditto quote (") in the column, that means use the page number above. Here is an example complete table as used in New York in the 1800's.
